Square Pig in a Round Hole-October 27, 2018

Square Pig

Naming a band is an act of concentrated creative expression. Square Pig in a Round Hole exists to reward five favorite band names each week. Winners are (usually) listed alphabetically.

Selection is wholly unscientific and subject to whim, with a bias toward wordplay, humor, and local flavor. In most cases, I won’t know anything about the bands at the time of selection. Thanks to the Seattle Times club listings for abundant source material!

October is drawing to a close and soon I will go into my cave to try to draft a novel in a month. (For the uninitiated, November is National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo for short.) I still plan to emerge on Saturdays to refresh myself with band names. While we’re on the subject, here’s a handful of full-sized treats to toss into your sack:

Cities you wish you were From

Somewhere else is always cooler. Kids from Tacoma move to Seattle. Kids from Seattle move to San Francisco. Kids from San Francisco move to New York. Kids from New York move to Paris … or Portland? All those people from somewhere else is what makes a city cool.

Feral Ohms

The house band of the resistance, luring allies with chemical attractants.

Ghost Train Trio

Seasonal spookiness. Careful at the crossing on Halloween night.

Lost Under Heaven

Melancholy poetry. In these darkening days, let us find our people (perhaps in a dingy bar) and be lost together.

Rockula–Prince of Rockness

Seasonal cheesiness. Who could resist?
