A lifeless body awaiting immortality.

Magic that erodes a sister’s identity.

Enemies bent on retribution.

Bridget has saved her sister, Dahlia, from imprisonment. But their reunion has come with enormous costs. Their friend was murdered in the rescue efforts, and Dahlia herself is no longer fully human.

Together, they seek to grant their friend a second chance at life. But the magic that will save him also paints a target on their backs.

As the sisters race to uncover the key to resurrection, Dahlia’s former captors pursue them—coveting the ancient powers and seeking justice for their own fallen companions.

At the same time, they must also contend with how Dahlia’s immortal life, new abilities, and fracturing personality are changing their relationship forever.

UNDENIABLE is the second book in The Grigori Cycle. Multi-Hugo Award-winning author Mary Robinette Kowal called UNRELENTING “a tapestry of emotion that effortlessly weaves together the threads of grief and obsession.”

My Review:

This is a thrilling read, full of action, peril, questionable decisions, and hard choices. It picks up soon after Unrelenting and continues the story begun in that book, so I recommend starting with book 1. Bridget, the only human in a crowd of superpowered, immortal Grigori, struggles to find her place in her new reality when she’d rather go back to how things used to be. Her sister Dahlia, no longer fully human, struggles with resentment of Bridget’s protectiveness while trying to master her new Grigori powers. They each have goals that could endanger everyone around them, not to mention powerful enemies hunting them down.

I really appreciated the realistic portrayal of sisterly friction and love in a setting with high-stakes magical battles. The grief the characters experienced also felt real. And as a human with no superpowers, I felt proud of Bridget’s cleverness and problem-solving even when way out of her depth. Dahlia’s exploration of her powers was fascinating—how far would she be willing to go? She seemed to be growing up fast, as both a human and a Grigori. I’m eager to see where this story goes, and recommend it to readers who like fast-paced supernatural thrillers.

I received an advance-reader ebook from the publisher.
