Naming a band is an act of concentrated creative expression. Since 2010, Square Pig in a Round Hole has been rewarding five favorite band names each week. Winners are (usually) listed alphabetically.
Selection is wholly unscientific and subject to whim, with a bias toward wordplay, humor, and local flavor. In most cases, I won’t know anything about the bands at the time of selection. Thanks to the Stranger’s Everout nightlife listings for abundant source material!
A rare occurrence: four-fifths of the blog comes from a single show! And it would have been the whole bill but I had already featured one of the bands in the past. Thank you, Skylark, for an embarrassment of riches!
If you are able, please buy these bands’ music and merch. And … hit the follow button at the lower right to never miss a post.

The following bands were all on a bill at Skylark Cafe with past honoree Mold Mom:
Emergency Contact
This magic touch will instantly portal teammates out of a disaster situation.
Femmes Eat Fruit
Headline for a slow news day, but heck yeah because fruit is awesome.
The Heart Attack-acks
Mars Attacks Billy Joel
Negative Passengers
This bus is beyond empty.
