My Review:
You Were Warned picks up a year after the events of Don’t Read This Book. The Convention of Fiends is about to have their annual meeting in Vegas. The necromancer Nigel Marion is dead, but the book he forced Lena Wallace to write still exists. Some monsters want to reauthorize Marion’s plan to use the book to destroy modern civilization before humans get too powerful. Some monsters just want chaos. One wants power over monsters and humans alike. Werewolf Nando wants to start a werewolf utopia in the wilds of Canada. A monster hunter wants a very specific monster. Vampire Bel wants … Lena. Lena wants Bel. But Lena has a secret that will change the game for everyone.
This is a very funny paranormal adventure with a great big heart. It takes deep dives into history, philosophy, intersectionality, and other intellectual realms, but framed with plenty of comedy, romance, action, and adorable werewolf pups to make it go down smoothly. I loved spending time with Lena, Bel, and Nando again, and greatly enjoyed the uneasy alliance they put together to save the world … again. And did I mention werewolf pups? As dangerous as they are cute. You’ll want the world to be saved just for them.
Highly recommended for adult readers who are not offended by gore, sex, or extreme wokeness.
