Naming a band is an act of concentrated creative expression. Since 2010, Square Pig in a Round Hole has been rewarding five favorite band names each week. Winners are (usually) listed alphabetically.
Selection is wholly unscientific and subject to whim, with a bias toward wordplay, humor, and local flavor. In most cases, I won’t know anything about the bands at the time of selection. Thanks to the Stranger’s Everout nightlife listings for abundant source material!
How is it October already!? But this is one of my favorite months–the leaves are turning, there are still plenty of sunny days, but we don’t have to water the garden anymore. And next Saturday, I will celebrate both my 39th wedding anniversary and the cover reveal for my 8th published novel! Deep River Rising (Tales from Deep River Book 2) is a sweet, cozy romantasy that can be read on its own or as a sequel to A Quest for Hidden Things. I will share details next week.
Be assured, none of that will interfere with the sharing of band names! If you are able, please buy these bands’ music and merch. And … hit the subscribe button at the lower right to never miss a post.
All Shall Perish
A truth that comes across as kind of encouraging: someday none of this will be my problem anymore, and none of the villains will live forever, either.
Apes of the State
Official government non-human primates. Probably more competent than a lot of the humans.
Carbon Leaf
The leaves that have been absorbing carbon dioxide and performing photosynthesis all summer are winding down for the season. Soon they will fall, ideally returning their carbon to the soil so the whole thing can begin again next year.
(I was introduced to this band a couple of days ago via sci-fi author Adeena Mignogna’s newsletter, and then there they were in the listings! Seemed like fate.)
Stolen Gin
Are the cocktails more satisfying with purloined booze?
Suture and Sew
Needle and thread joining medicine to handicraft.
Two last things before you go:
- I run The Rage Brigade, a Facebook group for conversation about fantasy, science fiction, superheroes, and music (and the intersections thereof). If that sounds like fun, come join us here.
- I share highlights from this blog in my monthly author newsletter, The Storypunk Report, as well as news of what I’m writing and reading, upcoming events, and other goodies, including “Wizard in the Mosh Pit,” an exclusive short story just for subscribers.
