Naming a band is an act of concentrated creative expression. Since 2010, Square Pig in a Round Hole has been rewarding five favorite band names each week. Winners are (usually) listed alphabetically.
Selection is wholly unscientific and subject to whim, with a bias toward wordplay, humor, and local flavor. In most cases, I won’t know anything about the bands at the time of selection. Thanks to the Stranger’s Everout nightlife listings for abundant source material!
This may be my favorite time of year: everything is in bloom and it’s genuinely warm some days, but it’s not yet necessary to water the garden and the state isn’t on fire yet. And I get to go on vacation next week! Probably no blog next Saturday unless I’m ambitious enough to schedule a post. Unlikely, so please doubly enjoy this bouquet of band names.
If you are able, please buy these bands’ music and merch. And … hit the subscribe button at the lower right to never miss a post.
Amble
While this folksy word is one of my favorite verbs for walking, I resent being behind unhurried walkers. I support their right to amble, just not in front of me!
ff00ff
It looks like a breathy sound effect but is apparently something to do with color. Is this the sound a color printer makes as it spits the ink?
Halls of Justice
May they be unimpeded by metaphorical trash. (I was hard pressed to find much online presence, so I’m not sure whether this is a band or an event.)
RC Cars on Mars
Silly meets sci-fi, and it rhymes!
Sorry Mom
While we probably all owe our mothers many apologies, without the comma this could be a description of how most mothers feel about the job they are doing/did, even though most are doing the best they can with what they have to work with.
Two last things before you go:
- I run The Rage Brigade, a Facebook group for conversation about fantasy, science fiction, superheroes, and music (and the intersections thereof). If that sounds like fun, come join us here.
- I share highlights from this blog in my monthly author newsletter, The Storypunk Report, as well as news of what I’m writing and reading, upcoming events, and other goodies, including “Wizard in the Mosh Pit,” an exclusive short story just for subscribers.
