Naming a band is an act of concentrated creative expression. Since 2010, Square Pig in a Round Hole has been rewarding five favorite band names each week. Winners are (usually) listed alphabetically.
Selection is wholly unscientific and subject to whim, with a bias toward wordplay, humor, and local flavor. In most cases, I won’t know anything about the bands at the time of selection. Thanks to the Stranger’s Everout nightlife listings for abundant source material!
Morning People
I am not one, though I was up before the sun today. But those of us who like to sleep in need someone to be alert in the early hours, so thanks to those who are. (This live project is a collection of friends performing a solo album, which you can hear HERE.)
Room for Cream
Just how I order my coffee. This is the time of year to add a little richness wherever you can get it.
Shy Leviathan
Just because it’s big doesn’t mean it’s outgoing. Be patient and let it come to you in its own time. And hide the harpoons.
Spider Lounge
A cozy hideaway for a subset of Halloween people and their favorite arachnids.
The Unsundered
A lovely old-fashioned term with an appealing rhyme. Stronger together.
Two last things before you go:
- I run The Rage Brigade, a Facebook group for conversation about fantasy, science fiction, superheroes, and music (and the intersections thereof). If that sounds like fun, come join us here.
- I share highlights from this blog in my quarterly author newsletter, The Storypunk Report, as well as news of what I’m writing and reading, upcoming events, and other goodies, including “Wizard in the Mosh Pit,” an exclusive short story just for subscribers.
