Naming a band is an act of concentrated creative expression. Since 2010, Square Pig in a Round Hole has been rewarding five favorite band names each week. Winners are (usually) listed alphabetically.
Selection is wholly unscientific and subject to whim, with a bias toward wordplay, humor, and local flavor. In most cases, I won’t know anything about the bands at the time of selection. Thanks to the Stranger’s Everout nightlife listings for abundant source material!
Today (Saturday, June 22, 10 am — 8 pm) I will be in the Author Event Network booth at the Fremont Fair. I have restocked and will have all titles available, so if you’re going to the Solstice Parade, be sure to check out the vendor area. We will be on 35th Ave. This will actually be my second long day this week. On the summer solstice, Thursday, June 20, I took part in my 6th annual Longest Day fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. I wrote from sunrise to sunset with the Writing Against the Darkness team, generating 8600 words of book 3 in my garage rock/superhero series, to be titled Truth. Justice. Rock & Roll. and raising $1175 for research, care, and support for those suffering from Alzheimer’s and other dementias. If this cause is meaningful to you, it is not too late to donate HERE.
None of that can keep me from celebrating band names. If you are able, please buy these bands’ music and merch. And … hit the follow button at the lower right to never miss a post.
Sounds cozy, but is that what we want when it’s finally summer? Still, winter will come again.
Must … resist … joke … about … Boeing.
Paradise if you know it would be unbearably hot after noon. Not so great when you’ve been writing since 5 am and it’s only 10 and you have another eleven hours to go.
NW loser pride–nowhere to go but down.
I like the just-what-it-says-on-the-label aspect. Unlike those who fill the stage with multiple ensembles, he is performing with a single group, and one of modest size at that.
Two last things before you go:
- I run The Rage Brigade, a Facebook group for conversation about fantasy, science fiction, superheroes, and music (and the intersections thereof). If that sounds like fun, come join us here.
- I share highlights from this blog in my quarterly author newsletter, The Storypunk Report, as well as news of what I’m writing and reading, upcoming events, and other goodies, including “Wizard in the Mosh Pit,” an exclusive short story just for subscribers. Click the link to check out the archive and subscribe here for future issues. (Or just follow the blog for your weekly dose of band names.)
