Naming a band is an act of concentrated creative expression. Since 2010, Square Pig in a Round Hole has been rewarding five favorite band names each week. Winners are (usually) listed alphabetically.
Selection is wholly unscientific and subject to whim, with a bias toward wordplay, humor, and local flavor. In most cases, I won’t know anything about the bands at the time of selection. Thanks to the Stranger’s Everout nightlife listings for abundant source material!
Wow, a weekend where I’m not out at an event trying to sell books! Might as well donate blood. (Want to join me? Find a Bloodworks NW donation center near you HERE.) I helped my fictional teenage garage band St. Rage write and record a song on the topic, since some of them are also regular (fictional) donors.
Meanwhile, the band name supply continues to be abundant. If you are able, please buy these bands’ music and merch. And … hit the follow button at the lower right to never miss a post.
All Hype
All hype, no product: pointless and annoying.
All creative types hyping all their friend creative types: a beautiful thing.
Fragile Bloom
Flowers seem delicate, but they’re out there in all weather, giving their all to feed the pollinators and in turn, us.
The Harmonica Pocket
Pockets are always a good idea. Small, specialized pockets are maybe less necessary, but always charming and convenient for carrying compact musical instruments.
The Things We Forgot
I know a couple who are always late because she won’t leave the house until she’s sure she hasn’t forgotten anything, while he is happy to just leave and come back for whatever was forgotten. So they have it both ways.
Treehouse
Who else always wanted a treehouse and never got one? It must be connected to some species memory of when we were arboreal.
Two last things before you go:
- I run The Rage Brigade, a Facebook group for conversation about fantasy, science fiction, superheroes, and music (and the intersections thereof). If that sounds like fun, come join us here.
- I share highlights from this blog in my quarterly author newsletter, The Storypunk Report, as well as news of what I’m writing and reading, upcoming events, and other goodies, including “Wizard in the Mosh Pit,” an exclusive short story just for subscribers.
