Naming a band is an act of concentrated creative expression. Since 2010, Square Pig in a Round Hole has been rewarding five favorite band names each week. Winners are (usually) listed alphabetically.
Selection is wholly unscientific and subject to whim, with a bias toward wordplay, humor, and local flavor. In most cases, I won’t know anything about the bands at the time of selection. Thanks to the Stranger’s Everout nightlife listings for abundant source material!
Pre-scheduling this post so I can go on a pre-Mother’s Day wine tasting getaway, dates chosen at random but turning out to be the nicest week so far this year. I’m often lucky that way. If there is a post next weekend, it will also be pre-scheduled, as I will be selling books at the U District Street Fair all day Saturday and Sunday. Find me in the Author Event Network booth!
If you are able, please buy these bands’ music and merch. And … hit the follow button at the lower right to never miss a post.
Call It Mango
A quick and easy way to update your mom’s beloved orange crocheted afghan from the ’70s.
Disco Clam
Event series, not a band, but close enough! This is one mollusc that was meant to have something musical in the land of Ivar named for it.
Orange Comfort
Your mom’s beloved crocheted afghan from the ’70s. Does not actually need an update.
Pseudo Saint
When your mom is having one of those days, displaying virtue in public but losing it in private. Did you ruin her beloved crocheted afghan from the ’70s?
Sour Fuzz
The result when you spill your Crush on your mom’s beloved crocheted afghan from the ’70s.
Two last things before you go:
- I run The Rage Brigade, a Facebook group for conversation about fantasy, science fiction, superheroes, and music (and the intersections thereof). If that sounds like fun, come join us here.
- I share highlights from this blog in my quarterly author newsletter, The Storypunk Report, as well as news of what I’m writing and reading, upcoming events, and other goodies, including “Wizard in the Mosh Pit,” an exclusive short story just for subscribers.
